Dr. Gregory Benford to speak at Huntsville-Madison County Public Library – Thursday, June 14, 2012

Another event has been added to the pre-DeepSouthCon50 festivities!

World-renowned scientist and science fiction author, Dr. Gregory Benford, will be speaking on Thursday, June 14, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the main Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 PM. Dr. Benford, a two-time winner of the Nebula Award and a Professor of Physics at the University of California, is the author of more than 25 SF novels. He will discuss "The Wonderful Future That Still Can Be: Science Fiction and Current Science”, examining the many ways that Science Fiction continues to influence the non-fictional world.

Dr. Benford is returning to Huntsville, for the first time in almost 10 years, as part of DeepSouthCon 50, June 15-17.

Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased online or in person at the Main Library.

Proceeds go to the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, and as such, support a very worthy cause. “Fort Book”, located less than 150 yards from DSC50’s Embassy Suites (18 seconds driving distance, per Mapquest!), has long been known to Huntsvillians as an SF haven, carrying ASIMOV’S, ANALOG, S&SF and even LOCUS in their magazine section and archives, as well as offering a fine assortment of current and classic SF books.

However, as a bonus to Pre-Registered DeepSouthCon members, we have a VERY limited number of tickets to the Benford talk to give away! This will be done on a First-Come, First-Serve basis, and when the free tickets are gone, they’re gone. And it’s strictly one ticket per Pre-Registered member – please, don’t ask for more! We’ll put your names on the “Will Call” list, then hold the tickets at the door until just before the talk. * Be there by 6:50 PM Thursday! *
